10.1 Concept and Principles of Sports Training

Sports Training is a pedagogical process based on scientific principles aiming at preparing athletes for higher performances in sports competitions.

Key Principles of Sports Training

Understanding the hierarchy of athletic performance:

  1. Skill: An automatized motor action capable of solving a specific movement task effectively. It is the overall ability an athlete acquires (e.g., passing a football).
  2. Technique: The single, scientifically sound, biomechanical method of executing a physical movement (e.g., striking the football with the inside of the foot while locking the ankle).
  3. Tactics: Specific, short-term plans implemented during the game to overcome a specific defensive or offensive setup of the opponent (e.g., exploiting a slow defender on the right wing).
  4. Strategy: The overarching, long-term master plan decided before the competition begins based on a deep analysis of one’s own team and the opponent.

10.5 Concept of Doping and its Disadvantages

What is Doping?

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) defines doping as the occurrence of one or more anti-doping rule violations, primarily the use of artificial, banned substances or methods (like blood transfusions) to illegally enhance athletic performance.

Common Banned Substances

  • Anabolic Steroids: Used to build muscle mass and strength quickly (causes liver damage, severe aggression/mood swings).

Disadvantages of Doping
